A National Horticulture Mission has been launched as a Centrally Sponsored
Scheme to promote holistic growth of the horticulture sector through area-based
regionally differentiated strategies. The State has taken many foresighted policy
initiatives, leading to better management of farm resources, crop diversification
under the National Horticulture Mission. The initiatives like the production of
high-value Horticulture crops, promotion of market linkage and processing
facilities, bringing horticulture under micro-irrigation, public-private partnership
programs and substantially expanding irrigation potential have catapulted the state
into the leadership position in horticulture production, marketing, and Export.
The scheme is fully funded by the Government and different components proposed
for implementation are financially supported on the scales laid down. “Presently,
India is the 2nd largest producer of fruits & vegetables in the world. "
This will be a centrally sponsored scheme in which the Government of India shall
provide 100% assistance to the State Mission during the Tenth plan. During the XI
Plan, the Government of India's assistance will be 85% with a 15% contribution by
the State Governments.
Objectives
• Provide assistance for holistic growth of horticulture sector, through technology
promotion, extension, and post harvest management, processing & marketing.
• Enhance horticulture production; improve nutritional security and income support
to farm households.
• Establish convergence and synergy among ongoing and planned programmers for
horticulture development.
• Promote, develop and disseminate technologies for horticulture development.
